New Gear, New Games-Kristen

The fun is about to begin for us! Last week I ordered the new canicross gear that I have longed for since my older dog was a puppy!

Luna is my partner in this project, a black and white hairy beast, and hopefully looking foward to this adventure. I will be the first to admit that I have slacked off on our training and exercise signficantly to make room for everything else that is 'life.' Somehow the realization that my dogs aren't getting any younger recently hit me hard and so I'm looking forward to the goals we are setting here and the flexibility that we will have. It will be a change from the much more precise dog games of agility and obedience.

Normally in 'dog sports' the pressure rests on the one responsible for training the dog. Most flaws in performance are related to a lack of training in some area or another, resulting in the handler returning to work on the precision so the next judged performance will be better (and less embarassing!). Now I'm going in a completely different direction, and it's not my mental abilities and knowledge of how dogs learn that will primarily be tested, but my physical ability to keep up! No more training from the comfort of my kitchen over lunch, but adventures to parks and trails all over!

What a way to start the year, I can't wait to see where this takes us.
